An Awesome Night of Music (and Sexy Ladies.)
Text and photos by Chris Lucas
I went there early, so early that I’ve seen how the stage was erected and the lights and sounds were set up. And as the night falls, audience and performers start coming. Then there it goes. The battle starts. The hostilities begin.
Crunchy guitars, powerful voices, trembling drums and some funny choreography are all over the place. People are dancing and singing the night away. And some even cheers for their favorite bands. As I watch and shoot the bands on stage, I can’t help but to feel envious for I can’t play even a single musical instrument. And what makes me feel so inspired was the fact that these unsigned bands are so great and it makes me think that what are these guys are doing here? They should be recording their songs and selling their cd’s. But too bad and too sad, the music industry is so congested and there’s no more room for these great talents.
The crowd went wild when CHICOSCI went up the stage as they rock the crowd with their pop-punk music. And when KADANGYAN, an ethno/rock band went up the stage, there’s a sudden adrenaline rush that rendered everybody to dance to their indigenous and yet very familiar sound. And much to my surprise, ethno/rock is still alive in the heart of Pilipino even in the underground scene. The performance of OREMUZ, a gothic-experimental metal rock group astonished everyone with the powerful vocals and superb stage presence. Then XLR8, a post hardcore band, rock the crowd as if there is no tomorrow. And I swear man, that’s awesome!
And in middle of the program, the contestants of the bikini contest, (yes, there was a bikini contest!) grace the program with their curvaceous bikini-clad bodies that pumped up the hormones of everybody. During the presentation, you can already guess who the crowd favorite was based on the screaming, or should I say, rampage of the male spectators.
DISIPULO, a classic metal-core got the 1st place followed by APHURA, with their own brand of progressive metal music bagged the 2nd place while SIX HELD HEART landed on the 3rd place.
And it was around 4 am when the entire program was formally ended by announcing the winners of the battle of the bands and the bikini contest. Everybody was exhausted especially the people from JOCTV Productions but in high spirits simply because the power of music is in there. And as I said, it was an awesome night of music and sexy ladies.
