DIY MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY
(No Accessory At All)
 
Taking close-up picture of small things is called MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY.  With macro photography, you can breathe life into details that are often left unnoticed.  And if you're considering macro photography but can't afford to buy expensive lenses, bellows, reversing rings or even close-up filters, try this idea I got from Kodak Pocket Guide to 35mm Photography.
 
All you have to do is (step1) remove your lens, (step 2) place the front of the lens against your camera, (step 3) cover it with a piece of cloth or hanky to prevent light leaks and you�re ready to shoot.
 
It would be better to use a tripod to prevent camera shake because a slight movement will throw your subject out of focus.
 
Forget about depth of field for in macro (and micro-) photography you have no depth of field at all.  And I believe that it is the subject not the background that matters most.
